Physical Inactivity Costs $27 Billion Per Year – WHO Update 2022

Do you need an (updated) reason to get moving and stay moving?

The World Health Organization just released their updated report on the topic.

Global Status Report on Physical Activity 2022

Among the key findings are:

  1. Almost 500 million people will develop heart disease, obesity, diabetes or other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) attributable to physical inactivity, between 2020 and 2030,
  2. This will cost the United States $27 billion annually without significant changes to our culture.

The challenging part is that physical inactivity is affecting all populations – as sliced by sex, region, and age group. The high levels of INactivity are depicted in this figure from the report:
