Workout intensity is key to most health benefits.
However, with so many different exercises, how do you measure it?
Enter Math & Physics.
If Intensity = Work Completed / time,
AND
Work Completed = Force x Distance
THEN
Intensity = Force x Distance / Time
An applied example.
Let’s look at two workouts.
Workout 1:
50 Backsquats (@135 lbs), Time to complete 00:10:00
Workout 2:
20 Deadlifts (@225 lbs.). Time to complete 00:04:00
Which exercise was more intense?
Workout 1: Intensity = 50*135/10 = 675 lbs/min
Workout 2: Intensity = 2*225/4 = 1125 lbs/ min
Workout 2 was more intense!
